What is: Interest rates are money you are given for lending someone (eg. a bank) your money. Interest rates are usually given as a percentage of the amount you loan to others.

Say you have 1000, that you place on a bank account. The current interest rate is 5%. At the end of a year, if you have had the same amount of money in the bank, you'll receive 50 in interest from the bank, so that you now have a total of 1050.
